For decades, mainland U.S. has hosted millions of illegal immigrants or aliens or those who enter the country without proper legal procedure. In fact, it is estimated that there are over 12 to 20 million illegal immigrants who are now in the U.S. though more accurate figures are still unknown. About 57% of these immigrants are Mexicans themselves trying to find greener pasture in America. This is an indication that there are certainly numerous flaws with regards to border security in the U.S.-Mexico border.
It is quite intriguing that despite of the established electrified fences, barbed wires and security personnel patrolling the border 24/7, there are still a lot of illegal entries that go unnoticed. Illegal immigration is proven to cause a lot of problems for society. First, illegal immigrants compete against legal citizens for available job slots. They may also carry along with them contagious diseases such as Cholera and Tuberculosis. And finally, smuggling of illegal drugs is also attributed to them. Not to mention the high crime rates of cities with higher concentration of illegal immigrants.
The mighty Rio Grande River which separates the U.S. from Mexico serves as a natural barrier in preventing people from crossing opposite sides. Despite of this natural border, the construction of a river structure held it useless. The structure is rumored to be used by immigrants who would like to cross across the river. It could have functioned as a bridge for people to cross and illegally enter the border. As evidence of such claim, frequent sneaker tracks were spotted within the area.
The spokeswoman for the International Boundary and Water Commission, Sally Spener, mentioned that the structure was not made to function as a bridge but as a grade control structure. They help soil erosion caused by water washing off sediments. Grade control structure or not, illegal immigrants have been using it as a reliable platform in crossing the river and conduct their illegal deeds. Various citizens have now petitioned to remove the “bridge” as it will only contribute to more illegal entries within the country. I say they should put border guards to patrol the structure or at least put fences on both ends to repel any person who is trying to cross.
Today, the issue with regards to illegal immigration has really been a hot topic. Various states are now toughening their stance with the passing of anti-illegal immigration policies and laws. Obama’s added funding for border security is also welcome news for legal citizens as it implies the government’s willingness to solve this issue and fight off illegal immigration. By removing numerous flaws in these borders, more illegal entries will be prevented and illegal immigration will be better controlled.

Illegal Immigration Can Too Bring Infectious and Dangerous Diseases
If you have been hearing the news recently, you probably have heard about the issue regarding illegal immigration in the US. It has been estimated that the US has approximately over 11 million illegal aliens. Majority of the aliens have been Mexicans who illegally cross the border in search for better life. Recently, the US Congress has passed the strictest and most extensive law with regards to illegal immigration.
The Arizona Senate Bill 1070 requires all aliens aging from 14 years or higher who has stayed in the country for more than 30 days to register with the US government. Aliens should always bring with them the registration documents anywhere they go. Failure to comply with registration or failure to present the registration documents will result in stiff penalties such as fines or even imprisonment. This new law prompted most illegal aliens to travel and transfer to other neighboring states where immigration laws are more loose.
Illegal immigration has numerous disadvantages which most Americans strongly dislike. One reason is that illegal immigration is unfair and unjust for people who legally received their citizenship. Some would also argue that aliens receive majority of government services while paying lesser taxes. A recent study has also blamed illegal immigration for the spread of diseases and may cause an epidemic. Some of the diseases mentioned were Tuberculosis, Malaria, Measles, Leprosy and variants of Hepatitis. These diseases are considered to be deadly and highly contagious.
With the passing of the Arizona immigration law, it is estimated that about 450,000 illegal aliens will be departing Arizona and will migrate to other safer states carrying with them various contagious diseases. It is alarming to note that a World Health Organization report claimed that about 25% of TB cases in the US originated from Mexico. Tuberculosis or TB can easily be spread to more people through cough droplets emitted when a person coughs. Different variants of Hepatitis may also easily spread considering that various restaurants employ illegal aliens to work as cooks or waiters.
If cities and states do not implement strict medical screenings and procedures, thousands and even millions of Americans are at risk of being infected with these dangerous diseases. The medical sector will also be deeply affected as it would need more funds to serve more people. The government should implement a strict medical screening on every people for every state to prevent the spread of such diseases. The government should never allow compromising the health and safety of every legal American.

Illegal Immigration Going Legal?
Illegal immigration in mainland US is a widely-discussed issue. A lot of politicians are claiming that the borders are tightly guarded and are fully secured. A recent study has indicated that there are at least 11 million illegal aliens who live and work in the US. And this number is fast rising as more and more immigrants are entering the border illegally. There is an estimated half a million illegal entries each year. Basing on these facts, there are more illegal aliens in the US compared to those who entered legally.
In this article, I will be talking about a labor secretary who may seem to contradict with her job description. The person I am talking about is Hilda Solis, the labor secretary who was appointed by none other than President Obama. With her work focused on promoting only what is good for the working sector, she displays a rather opposing mindset. In fact, she widely accepts and promotes the open-borders initiative.
At a Latino voter registration conference in Los Angeles, she reportedly spoke with all authority the following phrase “We are all Americans, whether you are legalized or not.” Shocking it may seem but this labor secretary whose job is to protect and upheld the rights of the American labor force is strongly considering equal rights for both legal and illegal citizens. It seems that she doesn’t care about American immigration laws and worst, she doesn’t put importance to what is legally obtained.
Solis is considered a strong supporter of improving illegal alien wages and benefits. She even hired over 250 new government field investigators to bolster and empower her campaign for illegal immigrant’s rights and privileges. Also, some other US cities are now adopting a resolution where illegal immigrant workers are included on their compensation plans. With the rising rate of unemployment, the federal government is giving so much priority and attention to illegal immigrant workers rather than help the actual and real American worker.
With the lack of tight US border security and with politicians who promote illegal aliens, America will soon be overrun by these illegal immigrants. The real essence of a true and deserving American is slowly being vanquished. When will the government realize this unjust and unruly situation that is invading the mainland US? Laws should be implemented in a way they should be and the innocent should be the one to benefit from it.
