The Cost of the Obama Disappointment

Two years ago, we were all amazed and astonished by the emergence of a black presidential aspirant. He was chosen as an ideal candidate for the Democratic Party. During the campaign period, Barack Obama was very busy giving inspiring speeches that are accompanied with very likable promises. Among his top agendas are improvements on the health care system, troop withdrawals in Iraq and reducing energy dependence. His propaganda caught the attention of most Americans and thus gained their support.

Two years after, those promises envisioned before hasn’t still become a reality. Let us face the fact that Pres. Obama is somewhat considered a big disappointment for most people. If you look at the nation now, you will see the struggles faced by the people. The economic crisis, the fall of Wall Street, the middle class losing their homes and the continuous increase in unemployment rate are just some of the major events that has defined how poor the President has been working. The political campaign two years ago was centrally focused on Obama being the primary mover for change. But now, that change may just well be a dream.

The Obama disappointment was basically centralized unto 3 major aspects namely his support for the war in Afghanistan, his inability to take a strong stance against major issues such as homosexuality and the not so ideal legislation that the administration has passed on such as the infamous health care reform bill. These decisions clearly reflect how incapable Pres. Obama is in pursuing a genuine reform for the nation.

What is alarming is that the people who used to trust Obama have lost their confidence to him. They believe that the agendas and promises mentioned during the 2008 campaign were just wonderful ideas that would never materialize. The cost for such massive disappointment can be very unpleasant. Those progressive supporters of Obama will less likely vote in future elections because of their displeasure with how things are going. Taxpayers may still cast on their votes but will avoid spending their money, energy and resources in supporting the next government.

The failure of Pres. Obama to address various issues and to implement drastic measure to help improve the American lifestyle has made people feel being manipulated and wrongly influenced. People are made angry of themselves thinking that they let these nightmares to happen. As a result, more people might isolate themselves from exercising their political will as they don’t have trust on the system. The damage has been done and it will keep on bleeding until Pres. Obama does something really good to save the nation.
