Saving the American Dream

The American dream is a very important word for the people of America in which a deeper meaning is attached. The statue of Liberty signifies the American dream through the elements of excellence, freedom and prosperity. Americans believe that by chasing the American dream, they will become better citizens; they will be economically richer and will live a happier life. But that dream may soon vanish forever.

The Obama administration is in-charged in pursuing that dream for the people. But they are facing rather unimaginable problems and massive economical crisis that may soon influence the fall of that dream. The American middle class is considered an important part of society as they comprise the vast majority. And now, the middle class is on the verge of collapse and this would spell the worst for America. With so much expectations coming in before the election, the Obama administration is very much responsible for the outcome of this trying times for America.

Let us run down to some of the problems that the middle class face during this period of crisis. Firstly, because of the ballooning budget deficit, government has cut spending on critical services such as retirement benefits for employees who retired from work. The middle class people are worried that after they retire, they might not have enough money to keep them living. Next, a general aspect of the American dream is the freedom to live happily. But now, mortgages and properties have become so expensive that more people are losing their homes or are facing foreclosure. Add up the very high interest rates that make payments even much of a burden.

Also, health care premiums have also become so expensive that only a few people are capable of buying one. Middle class people are living their life without a health care plan. One of the most unlikable situations that the middle class people are facing is the fact of unemployment or no jobs at all. They are quite worried that their sons will grow up having no job options or a source of living. Unemployment rates are really continuously increased since the economic crisis began.

The US government should hear and put importance to the voice of the middle class people. The American dream is slowly fading away from us. Let us bring it back by appropriate spending, making the right decisions and giving back the basic services that will sustain the majority of people. We should do all means possible to start economic recovery and begin reducing the budget deficit that has cursed our land.
