Useless Projects have Wasted a Lot of the Taxpayer's Money

There have been so many instances of wasteful spending and unnecessary laws passed by the US government. Several government-funded projects and programs were implemented only to the interest of a given few or even a single politician. Let us face the fact that the US is indeed facing serious debt. But why does Washington continue to do the same mistakes over and over again? So without further ado, here are some of the controversial projects that are considered a waste on taxpayer’s money.

First on the list is the infamous $50 million indoor rainforest project in IOWA. It was spearheaded by a self-proclaimed fiscal conservative and republican Sen. Charles Grassley. What caught the attention of most people is the huge budget and sheer volume it had. $50 million for a non-defense project is quite a huge and enormous figure to consider. It has been said that the project was really never discussed thoroughly in congress. Eventually, the project died along with the wasted $21 million of federal and local money.

Another project which involves a Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) troop-carrying airplane for the military has again wasted so much of the taxpayer’s money. It has been said that a powerful entrepreneur from San Diego, California convinced a politician into pursuing the said project. Sadly, the project failed as the aircraft was only able to fly 2 foot from the ground vertically. Because of the long time frame for development, the project allegedly used and wasted a total of $63 million of government funds.

The MARIAH wind tunnel project was yet another example of poor congress evaluation and budgeting. It lasted for over a decade and had a total expense of $70 million. The sad fact is that the project was not needed nor requested by the military or NASA but was solely pursued by a politician. This politician continued to use taxpayer’s money despite the project not having enough economic sense.

With so much controversies and inconsistencies that congress has done, a large portion of what the taxpayers have paid for will be put to waste. And this is the reason why there are a lot of protests and rallies going on criticizing the way government have used and abused funds. The tea party movement in particular will continue to safeguard and protect the best interest of every American citizen. Wasting of taxpayer’s money is just like trashing your own country and it should really be stopped.
